World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers In the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
