One 60-day cruise circling Australia was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a remote island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the group for a rest. The vessel left without her and came back later that day after the ship staff realised the woman was missing.

A large-scale rescue mission discovered her body the following day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the event, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and crew on the vessel were informed that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an revised communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

The ship initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the senior passenger's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the journey.

Passengers on the vessel - who generally pay large sums of dollars to take part in the cruise - were taken there for a daily excursion with the possibility of trekking or snorkelling.

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the ship left the location after an planned outing without my mum".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking club.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a lapse of care and basic judgment," she said.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"We understand from the authorities that it was a very hot day, and mum became unwell on the hill climb," she stated.

"They requested her to head down, unescorted. Then the boat departed, seemingly without performing a roll call.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or not long after, she passed away, without company."

Organization Response

Through an announcement, the CEO verified that the organization was "working closely with officials to support their inquiry".

He said that the organization was "very regretful that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the family.

The ship serves up to one hundred twenty travelers with 46 personnel, according to official details. It was specially constructed to reach isolated regions of the nation's coastline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to take individuals on day excursions.
