"Any idea when you're chatting with the Haim sisters?" a text reads. "I was hoping to ask if I can become their newest bandmate."

However, there remains a single issue: The sender also desires to be Haim's fourth member. And we're not alone. Several celebrated supporters have publicly coveted the honor.

The evidence suggests an irresistible appeal is at play. The siblings Este, Danielle and Alana launched their career playing gigs at local delicatessens with their parents. Presently, they stand as multiple Grammy nominees.

Like all the greatest ensembles, they're a close unit. Their music videos repeatedly feature them striding in sync down the streets of Los Angeles. On stage, they play with such unfettered joy you inevitably think, "I wish to be involved in that, too."

"How often on tour that young girls told us and said, 'Seeing you perform, I got a guitar'," says Alana, the youngest of the sisters. "That is the biggest compliment. That is recognition in itself. We have succeeded if we can inspire others to make music."

Grammy Milestone

The trio are connecting from home, where they're taking a pause after an lengthy tour in for their latest album, I Quit.

They're right now celebrating the news it's been in the running for Best Rock Album at the Grammys – with Haim the very first all-woman band ever in consideration for the award.

"I follow the nominations every year, so it almost feels like The Truman Show when your name is announced," explains Alana. "I immediately called my sisters to say, 'Did we just hear this correctly or am I imagining things'?"

The weight of the nomination isn't lost on the sisters.

"We really set out to make a rock album this time, so it's a major step," says Alana. "But we're just thankful for the female artists that paved the way."

Emotional Upheaval and Candor

The record was born from a time of emotional upheaval. All three sisters were single, and the music explores that strange transitional period where you're happy to be free, but not entirely ready to let go.

The themes follow endings and partings. The sisters desire love, but not the specific love they've experienced. You can hear them figuring out in real life who they are becoming.

"I love way of putting it, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a slogan. You have to actively work on ignoring the outside opinions and saying, 'It doesn't matter to me what people think'."

Evolution of Sound

That developed resilience called for a new sound – more unpolished and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that started with the drum sound.

"Drums are such a specific thing, and I focus so intensely about it," she emphasizes.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the name of our memoir," quips Alana. "I've said it, our albums cannot begin until we find the right drum sound."

Stories and Shared Laughter

The trio's honesty shaped the album's rollout, where the sisters disclosed some of their personal tales.

One man ended things with Este over a medical concern. Alana told a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"During these setbacks, you just feel like there's no hope," explains Alana. "Therefore to be able to laugh at those stories and hear others tell you more outrageous stories, it's incredible."

A Secure Legacy

One can easily sense a change in the band. Today, Haim are more certain of their standing in the music world.

They're top-billed acts, with successful albums and an worldwide fan base.

Yet the sister act will always be their top commitment.

"Me and my siblings have been performing since I was a young child," shares Alana. "It feels as if no other path that we were supposed to do. And I'm really grateful we've reached this point and we're still kicking."
